Things to do in Vung Tau
Vung Tau sits on its own headland in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, on the south-east coast, not in the Mekong Delta, which lies in the opposite direction, inland to the south-west. Coaches, limousine minibuses and private cars run out along the expressway, and the hydrofoil crosses the Saigon River and open water to reach the same headland.
The town is built around the Christ of Vung Tau statue on the hill above the beaches and around a working fishing harbour, with Ho Tram and Long Hai as quieter stretches of coast further along.
For beach comparisons and which stretch suits a day trip or a longer stay, see our beaches and islands guide; for how Vung Tau is packaged as a shore excursion from cruise calls at Phu My, see our shore excursions guide.
