Things to do in Phan Thiet

Phan Thiet is the provincial capital of Binh Thuan, roughly 200 km up the coast from Ho Chi Minh City, and a working fishing port first, not a beach resort. Its identity is the harbour: a fleet of blue wooden boats, a fish market that runs in the small hours, and net-repair work along the Ca Ty River that has little to do with the sand-dune scenery tourists associate with the area.

Phan Thiet is often folded into "Mui Ne" in travel writing, but the two sit apart along the coast and serve different purposes โ€” Phan Thiet as a functioning city and port, Mui Ne as the resort strip further along. Visiting outside the dry season changes the fishing rhythms on the water, so timing shifts what there is to see at the harbour.
