Things to do in Rach Gia

Rach Gia sits on the Gulf of Thailand, not on the branch of the Mekong that runs through Can Tho and Chau Doc: this is a working port city facing west, built around fishing fleets and the ferry terminal for Phu Quoc, rather than a stop on the delta's canal network.

The seafront promenade, the night market and the causeway built out over reclaimed land give it a different feel from the orchard towns further east.

Most visitors pass through on the way to or from the island rather than staying to explore, and the city itself is treated here as a transit point with its own working-port character rather than a delta destination in the Can Tho mould. For ferry schedules and routes to Phu Quoc, see the transport section.
