Things to do in Can Gio
Can Gio is the mangrove forest closest to Ho Chi Minh City, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2000 reached directly from the city by road and ferry across the Long Tau river, without going anywhere near the Mekong Delta.
It gets confused with the mangroves of Ca Mau, at the far southern tip of the delta, several hours further away by any route; the two are not the same forest and not the same trip. What is here is replanted mangrove, monkeys along the boardwalks and canals, and a war history layer from the Rung Sac guerrilla zone.
It is a single outing from the city, not a multi-day delta itinerary, and the tidal creeks look different depending on the state of the tide on the day.
