Things to do at the Cu Chi Tunnels
Cu Chi is a district of Ho Chi Minh City, not a separate province, and the tunnel network there is one of the most visited day trips out of the centre. The tunnels were dug and expanded over years of conflict into a multi-level system with living areas, workshops and hidden entrances, and a preserved stretch is now open for visitors to walk and, in places, crawl through.
Most visitors combine a look at the tunnels with a wider day out to the north-west, since Tay Ninh province, home to the Cao Dai Holy See and the Black Virgin Mountain, lies further on and is not part of Cu Chi itself.
Getting there from Saigon is by road, in a coach, a shared minibus or a private car, and a half-day is enough to see the tunnels alone; a full day allows time to continue to Tay Ninh as well.
